Here's a video made by Alex Cormack of a sculpture from my BFA thesis show back in December 2008 set to the music of Gogol Bordello.
The piece is about 6.5 feet high, 9 feet wide and 4 feet long. It's made out of five hollow wooden blocks that are held together with bed rail fasteners. The fasteners were necessary because I needed to be able to assemble and disassemble the sculpture without doing damage to the piece.
The sculpture is titled after a giant cyclops because of it's overwhelming presence and the feeling that the center piece is looking down on the viewer.

Ashley! I really like how you added this video. I had no idea you had even did this at our show. It looks great and really gives a better idea of what your sculpture was like and just how huge it was. Your blog is amazing and very easy for me to go around it.
ReplyDeleteAs a photo student, I rarely make my way over to the 601 Newbury St. building due to all of my classes and facilities being over at 700 Beacon St. I appreciate the way that the video gave me a greater sense of the piece, its dimensions and space, than a static image would. In terms of physically interacting with your piece is the viewer meant to walk underneath or remain a "polite" observing distance away?
